Texas Roadwork Update: Dec. 4 Projects Revealed by Department of Transportation

The Texas Department of Transportation is set to kick off a series of roadwork projects in the upcoming week, starting Dec. 4, 2023. With an eye on enhancing infrastructure, the department has outlined various construction and maintenance initiatives across the district. As always, work schedules are contingent on factors like weather conditions and unforeseen issues, urging drivers to exercise caution in work zones.

Roadwork Highlights:

  1. FM 752 Mill and Inlay in Alto and Rusk:
    • Crews will be conducting mill and inlay work on FM 752, introducing lane closures with flaggers directing traffic.
  2. SH 21 Resurfacing Project Progress:
    • The SH 21 resurfacing project, extending from the Houston County Line to U.S. 69 in Alto, is advancing. Activities include the installation of permanent signs and mailboxes, along with the removal of rock filter dams and silt fences. Lane closures are anticipated, and the project is slated for completion in winter 2023.
  3. SH 294 Rehabilitation Project:
    • The SH 294 rehabilitation project, spanning from CR 2326 east to SH 21, will witness the installation of mow strips for the metal beam guard fence at the Bowles Creek bridge. Lane closures will be implemented during active work periods.
  4. U.S. 69/FM2493 Interchange and FM 2493 Realignment:
    • Significant progress is underway as the contractor clears the right-of-way on the west side of U.S. 69 and constructs a detour on the east side. This project, spanning 0.5 miles north of FM 2493-W to 0.5 miles of 2493-E, is expected to wrap up by summer 2027, with no current lane closures or delays expected.
  5. US 69/31 Safety Improvement:
    • Construction for the median cable barrier north of Alto to FM 241 marks the initiation of the US 69/31 safety improvement project. Thankfully, no lane closures are anticipated at this stage.

As the Texas Department of Transportation diligently works on these projects, drivers are encouraged to stay informed about potential disruptions and exercise patience to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the ongoing roadwork endeavors.
